![]() St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church E-Mail us at: stjohn@bright.net A free Veteran’s Day Celebration will be held on Sunday, November 11th at 3pm in the Family Life Center
of St. John Lutheran Church (1100 N. Main Street, Celina).
The Grand Lake Soundwaves will be featured as they perform a variety of patriotic songs. Other performers
are scheduled to sing as well.
“We want to salute our veterans and those currently serving with some favorite songs,” says
Dale Dicus, Soundwaves director. “This celebration will do that while also providing a fun atmosphere for the
community to enjoy an old-fashioned hymn sing.” The program will include time for recognition of veterans as well
as showing support for those still on active duty.
A free-will offering will be taken, proceeds from which will be used to buy items and pay for the shipping
of care packages. These packages will be assembled by the “Purple Door Youth” of St. John Lutheran Church
and sent to service men and women currently deployed in the United States Armed Forces. In addition, the community is
asked to bring donations of non-perishable snack items (such as hard Jolly Rancher candy, cans of peanuts, sunflower seeds,
Smarties or SweetTarts and powdered Gatorade drink mix). These items will be included in the packages.
Cindy Snyder, Director of Youth and Education at St. John Lutheran Church explains, “The youth of
St. John are honored to put these care packages together to show the deployed men and women how much we appreciate what they
are doing for our Country.”
