Coaching Staff

 

Matt and Karen Cromwell are both USATF Certified Officials.  For the year of 2007 Karen Cromwell continues to serve as the State AAU Parent Liaison.  

 

We have had lots of positive inquiries into our program, anyone with any coaching expertise or other sports related experience will be welcome to join our coaching staff. We are also looking for volunteers with excellent organizational skills willing to responsible for club funds, meet entry organization, and parent newsletters. 

 

The participants on the team are all from Celina. Any youth age 5-18 from anywhere in Ohio can join their team, Sonic Track and Field. They do not have a membership fee,but ask participants to be responsible for their AAU and USATF membership fees, meet entry fees and pay for their uniforms.  They practice at the Celina High School.

NWO Invitational in Toledo, Ohio was held Saturday May 24th
Sara Wenning, age 8, took 2nd place in the 8 and under division Long Jump with a jump of 9'1".

Kirsten Fennig took 1st in the 15-16 year old 800 meters and 1st in the shot put.

The USA Track & Field Foundation announced it has awarded several youth club grants to deserving clubs.

"The Foundation isdelighted to award these grants to help support and encourage competitive and fitness opportunities for young people," said USATF Foundation board member Paul Lilly. "I encourage other fans to join us in helpingAmerica's youth athletes discover their potential."

 
Sonic Track & Field Club (Celina, OH) received a $2000 grant for equipment, scholarships, coaching and travel

The USATF Foundation depends on donations from its board of directors and from generous fans of track & field. The Foundation assists people of all ages, all walks of life, and all ability levels in finding enjoyment and accomplishment and achieving fitness through our inclusive sport.

Sonics Track and Field Compete at Regionals
 
This last weekend's Regional AAU Track Championships were held in Columbus. There were over 1600 kids competing from Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia.

The Sonics Track and Field team participated in the Flag City Flyers Invitational AAU Meet which was held on June 23, 2007 at the Liberty Benton High School in Findlay, Ohio.
 
Kendra Fenning took a 2nd place finish in the 80 meter hurdles and 4th place finish in the 100 meter dash.  Macenzie Cromwell ran personal bests in both 100 and 400 meter dash in the 9 & 10 year old division.  Colton Johnson participated and ran a personal best in the 100 meter dash in the 8 and under division.

Two Local Athletes Qualify for AAU Track Regionals

Colton is 5 and typically runs the 100 meters in the Primary age division which is 8 yrs and younger.  Sunni is 3 and she competes in the 50 meter and 100 meter fun runs for ages 5 and under, which they did not have at this past meet.  Macenzie is in the Sub-Bantam divison which consists of anyone  born in 1998.  She missed qualifying by one place as she got 9th in both the 100 and 400 meter sprints.  Kendra Fennig who placed 7th in both the 400 meter and 200 meter sprints competed in the sub-midget division which consists of kids born in 1996.  Megan Stetler who placed 6th in the 800 meters and 4th in the 1500 meters competed in the midget division which consists of kids born in 1995.  The Ohio Association Chairman Decarlo Blackwell reported their was a total of 540 track and field athletes who competed in that meet.  Athletes ranged from ages 5-18 years of age.
 
Kendra and Megan advance to the AAU Regionals which will be hosted by The Ohio Association and held on July 5-8th in Columbus.  The Regional competion includes Ohio, Michigan, Lake Erie, and West Virginia. The top four in each event will advane to the AAU National Championships in Knoxville, TN on July 28th - August 4th.
