Last evening we took a stroll around Celina to view the spectacular lighting displays adorning area residences. The slideshow showcases a few of the gems we found on Main Street as well as a few around town.

The Chamber’s Public Relations Committee would like to send their thanks to Brenda Robinson and her family for their hard work and dedication in fundraising and remodeling the Santa house.  After much research, Brenda and her family were able to restore the Santa house which was built in the early sixties to its original style. If that was not enough Brenda also restrung and repainted the large wreaths hanging in the Mercer County Courthouse windows and made the wooden Christmas soldiers and other cutouts that adorn the Courthouse lawn. Each year the Chamber solicits funds to cover the yearly expenses of candy, wages and miscellaneous upkeep for the Santa house.  Contributors for these yearly expenses are Celina American Legion, The Peoples Bank Co., Celina VFW, CAPT, Citizens National Bank, Celina Moose Lodge, Women of the Moose, and Celina Eagles Lodge.

On behalf of over 800 children who visit Santa each year in this house, we thank you.

Also during the event an auction was held consisting of local donations for the public. Everyone involved with the auction would like to thank the local donors for their participation. The Reindog Parade was held downtown, beginning at the Celina Insurance Group parking lot and ending at Santa's newly remodeled house downtown. Members of the Celina High School marching band were playing as well. The annual Reindog Parade consisted of area dog lovers dressing their favorite pooch up as reindeer and marching them in the parade. At the conclusion of the parade the dogs go through some contests where Perfect Paws rewards the dog owners with trophies for the different contests such as best dressed, best tricks, etc. Santa was also present at Santa's house until 2 pm and carriage rides were available downtown. A local coloring contest held earlier in the week concluded with the two winners being presented bicycles with two second place winners getting scooters for their artwork. Several local businesses donated money and certificates, etc. which go toward scholarships for students at Celina Schools.

We'd like to thank Keith and Sheila Gudorf for inviting us to a "sneak preview" of another fantastic production by the Celina High School students.

This is a fast moving, extremely fun play, with alot of twists and turns. The actors are great and put a ton of energy into what has to be one of the best productions we've seen. A whimsical reinvention of Shakespeare's tragic love story, complete with rhymed couplets, creative wordplay, and fantastical machines -- similar to something Dr. Seuss might have come up with if he ever had his way with the script...

"Big Bob", the world's largest man-made bass, underwent a makeover this year. The large fish float, which is a staple in the annual Celina Lake Festival, went through some major overhauling since it's debut in 1965. The float was originally built by Robert "Red" Adams, and was painted back then by Jack Griswold. This past Spring the family of Mike and Brenda Robinson and several other volunteers took on the task of restoring the float. Three generations of the Jack Griswold family, Jack (the original painter), Jeff Griswold, and Jared Griswold painted the fish, giving it a newfound luster.
We'd like to thank Brenda Robinson for the use of the photos, and congratulate everyone involved on a job well done! (editor's note: I didn't realize the eyes on the fish light up!)
